Not So Much Christmas Spirit

I don't know what the deal is this year, but I just have not really been that into Christmas. Christmas spent in Utah is just never the same for me. Every year since I can remember Christmas meant sunshine, sleeping in, a trip to the Mission Inn to see lights and the scary elves, some outrageous meal typically at the Claim Jumper, and of course the usual drama that surrounded my mom and dad trying to wrap Christmas presents together at 1 am. It's just weird how things change so much. This year, Chad and I are spending Christmas in Utah while my parents and my sister head to London. Not fair, I know, and they've already heard an ear full from me! My Christmas shopping has been done for days now and the presents are wrapped, but I still can't get into it. Typically I put up all the decorations the day after Thanksgiving, but it took me almost two weeks after to put them up! Seriously, I'm afraid the Grinch has taken up residence in my house this year!

Today I decided that I am done with it! I love Christmas, I always have. I even love the neuroticism that often surrounds the holiday! Every year since I've been in Salt Lake I've made a point to walk Temple Square and see the lights after grabbing a cup of hot chocolate or a vanilla steamer from Starbucks. I have yet to do this and no matter how many times I bring it up to Chad, he refuses to go this year. So I've compromised and said that we can go to Thanksgiving Point for the drive through lights display they have there. I'm hoping that I can get out and do some Christmas-y related stuff this week to pull me out of my Christmas funk this year!

Duh! is Chad stupid? Every man knows that you take your woman to see the lights out in the cold so she can have hot chocolate even though it will be watered-down & scalding hot & an over-all disappointment & she'll whine about how cold it is but you go anyway because its one of those few things that she really wants to do. Plus its a great opportunity to eavesdrop on a really extra-mormon date where some 3 months back from the mish kid is trying way too hard to impress some 19-year old girl by pulling way too many gentlemanly moves that remind her of her dad, including naming off scripture references during that part by the manger scene, then culminating in his completely misreading all of her signals, deciding she's the one cause he felt the spirit, ponying up for a carriage ride, then getting his proposal shot down while 75 onlookers gawk as they finish off the world's slowest & most awkward ride back to the car. Now that is the height of unintentional comedy & a really long run-on sentence.

SERIOUSLY Chad! What's up with that?! Get your sorry little butt bundled up and take your wife to Temple Square! (I must admit.... went this year and was a little disappointed.)
You aren't the only one struggling this year. Everyone that I talk to is having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit. Wonder why.... MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Tell Chad to get with it! Temple Square is beautiful! I am with you a little bit...in the sense that I hate shopping this year and feel like I have to time to really "be ready" for Christmas!

The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

You used to be a cheerleader... come on now!!! Pep it up!

"That's it! Christmas is canceled!"

OK -

First, the present wrapping issues are because dad won't wrap presents that aren't in boxes.

Second, why is Adrienne still up at 5:46 a.m.

Third, I said Christmas is cancelled one lousy time and now it will haunt me for eternity.

You know what!? ok.. I enjoy the Christmas lights and love Christmas, but having to deal with construction downtown, stupid drivers, stupid people, and finding a place to park just to freeze my little, ok big, buns off just isn't worth it to me. It isn't because I don't wanna spend time freezing with Tara. And Steve, sometimes you gotta stand up for yourself, it is time for girls to do what the guys wants to do (play video games!). I do love people watching and listening to "nothing fights" and "sappy lovey dovey people with their googly eyes" but it is kinda hard to watch people when you are shivering so bad you can't see straight and bundling up and covering your ears, you can't hear people very well.

We did see lights at Thanksgiving point. I thought it put us in the Christmas spirit a little and we were warm! and didn't have to deal with stupid people, parking, and construction. We did get to see little kids roll down the window and hang out the door while "perfect mommy and daddy" are driving and letting them do that.

Ok... that is my story and i'm sticking to it!
